Original description: Neu, W. 1937. Cyprinodon sureyanus n. sp. aus dem Burdur Gölü. Rev. Fac. Sci. Univ. Istanbul, n.s. 2 (2): 109.

Gender/Accordance: [Adj.]

SYSTEMATICS: sureyanus Aph.

Current status: valid sp.

Status evaluation (current): discussed {subspecies status also proposed}.

Systematic remarks (with taxonomic history): well defined (taxonomic history : since its description in the genus Cyprinodon in 1937, a fish whose atypical morphology has been strongly studied, notably its body depth, teeth and lateral scales ; the systematic status has then varied from subspecies to full species, until molecular biology evidence which shows that the morphological differenciation is not found in mitochondrial genes ; the authorship of the first valid description of the endemic fish of lake Burdur has been a matter of controversies {now settled} between authors).
