Systematic remarks (with taxonomic history): well defined, but quite variable in pattern and genetics (taxonomic history : since its description in 1821 and up to Boulenger in 1907, the taxon is neglected and the fish assignable to fasciatus are referred to calaritanus, today regarded as valid but may encompass several cryptic species which are not distinguishable by morphology )
